Time Etc vs Belay 2026: Which Dedicated VA Service Actually Fits?

Last tested: 2026-02-15

Time Etc

7.8/10

Belay

8.2/10

Verdict per use case

Budget-conscious founder (under $2,000/mo)

Time Etc wins

Time Etc's 20-hour tier ($700/mo) gives real working hours at a fraction of Belay's $2,000+ minimum. The per-hour rate ($35) beats Belay's ($45). Rollover hours protect you in lighter months.

US-based EA with real-time coverage

Belay wins

Belay's managed W-2 model and account manager layer means more consistent real-time availability. Time Etc VAs are excellent but the support layer is lighter.

Fast start (need help in under a week)

Time Etc wins

48-hour matching vs Belay's 3-week process. If you need to start now, Time Etc wins.

Variable workload (heavy some months, light others)

Time Etc wins

Rollover hours. Belay hours expire monthly. If your volume swings, Time Etc's rollover is a real structural advantage.

Chief-of-staff level judgment work

Belay wins

Belay's EA quality and account manager layer supports higher judgment work. Time Etc VAs are good executors; Belay EAs more often operate with initiative.

The two most-compared US-based dedicated VA services. Time Etc is the value option; Belay is the premium. The right answer depends entirely on your hours, budget, and how much judgment work you’re delegating.

We tested both services for 60+ days each in Q1 2026. Here’s what actually separates them.

The one-sentence version

Choose Time Etc if: you have 10–30 hours/month of async-friendly work, a $700–$1,200/mo budget, and you value rollover hours over premium support.

Choose Belay if: you have 10+ hours/week of judgment-heavy work, a $2,000–$3,800/mo budget, and you want managed EA support with real-time US coverage.

Pricing head-to-head

Entry price$390/mo (10 hrs)~$2,000/mo (custom)
Useful working tier$700/mo (20 hrs)~$2,400/mo (60 hrs)
Per-hour rate$35–$39/hr$40–$45/hr
Rollover hoursYesNo
Setup feeNone~$500–$750
Matching speed48 hours2–3 weeks

[realism check] The matching speed difference is real. If you are comparing these two services and need to start this week, Belay is off the table. This matters more than people realize — if you’re already overwhelmed, a 3-week wait makes the situation worse before it gets better.

Quality differences we actually observed

In our testing, Belay EAs required less calibration for judgment calls. When we sent an ambiguous email and said “handle this,” the Belay EA asked one clarifying question and then handled it. The Time Etc VA completed the task but more literally than we intended — technically correct, not quite right.

This is a pattern, not a flaw. Time Etc VAs are excellent executors. Belay EAs are calibrated to operate with more autonomy. If your work requires execution, Time Etc is fine. If it requires judgment, Belay’s EA model is worth the premium.

The rollover hours question

Time Etc’s rollover policy is genuinely underrated. If you have a conference week with no admin needs, those hours carry to next month. Belay hours expire.

At $35/hr (Time Etc’s 20-hour tier rate), a month where you use only 12 of 20 hours means 8 hours carry forward to next month — $280 in value protected. At Belay’s $45/hr with no rollover, that $360 expires.

For operators with variable workloads, this structural difference matters more than the per-hour rate.

Our verdict per use case

Real estate agents: Neither is the top pick. MyOutDesk’s real-estate specialization wins for this segment. Between these two, Time Etc’s faster matching and lower entry price makes it accessible while the agent gets oriented.

SaaS founders (pre-Series A): Belay for inbox + calendar work above $2,000/mo budget. Time Etc for everything under that.

Agency founders (5–20 person teams): Belay for senior EA support. Time Etc for execution-heavy admin at scale.

E-commerce operators: Neither — offshore dedicated services (Wishup, MyOutDesk) win on price. But between these two, Time Etc’s lower cost makes it accessible.
